2020 SCA Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend cancelled due to COVID-19

Following the declaration of a Public Health Emergency Announcement in South Australia, organisers of the SCA Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend have announced the 2020 event will be cancelled as a precaution to the COVID-19 virus.

The event, which was planned to be held from Friday 15th – Sunday 17th May 2020, will now not go ahead, and will instead be rescheduled for a bigger and better return in May 2021. Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association General Manager Lucy O’Brien and Regional Tourism Manager – Clare Valley & Southern Flinders Mim Ward said the joint decision is in the best interest and wellbeing of the event goers, participants and visitors to the region.

“This decision has not been taken lightly and we deeply regret any inconvenience caused,” Lucy said. “However, we are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of our event patrons and we are following the lead of Australian health authorities at this important time.”

Whilst the event itself will be cancelled; the Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association and Regional Development Australia will work together and look at some options later in the year to accommodate those who will miss out on the 2020 SCA Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend. “We may look at hosting some smaller events later in the year to provide opportunities for those who still wish to visit the region and enjoy our country hospitality, regional food and award-winning wines.”

“We encourage our loyal event followers to support the local wineries and venues, originally on the program for the SCA Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend, by visiting their cellar doors throughout the year, stocking up on their fabulous wines, or purchasing online.” “We would also like to thank the ongoing support of our sponsors, local wineries and businesses, and those who have been involved in the event to date,” Lucy said.

The Clare Valley wine region remains open for business, with individual operators deciding how best to manage this situation. Unless directed to the contrary, we will continue to welcome visitors to our region. Plans will soon commence for the 2021 SCA Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend, and dates will be confirmed as soon as possible.
