Launch of new format Historic walk Guide

It has been a while on the drawing board and publication was interrupted by Covid-19 restrictions, but on Thursday 30th July Clare Regional History Group launched their new format Clare Historic Walk Guide at an event at the Clare Valley Wine Food & Tourism Centre.

Based on the popular walk first developed by the Lions Club of Clare District, the guide is printed in a Z-Card pocket-sized format. It contains site notes for 43 properties and a large coloured map. The descriptions include a basic historical description, symbols to show if the property is heritage-listed and if there is a plaque or large sign at the site.

The Clare Historic Walk continues to be a popular activity for tourists and locals. There are also plans to involve Clare High School tourism students in an assessment of the new guide.

The walk can be undertaken in sections and there are diversions indicated to Clare Cemetery, Gleeson Wetlands and Melrose Park. The Lions Park adjacent to Clare Oval is a suggested starting point.

This project was funded by the History Group and a $3,000 Community Asset Grant from Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council.

The guides are available for $2 from Clare Valley Wine Food & Tourism Centre and Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council office.
