Polish Hill River Church Museum

Polish Hill River Church Museum

The Polish Hill River Church Museum has been established by the South Australian Polish community in order to document and commemorate the contribution of Polish migrants to the development of the state.

The Polish Hill River Church Museum is situated in a picturesque valley, a few kilometres south of the Jesuit church and winery at Sevenhill. The valley is home to Paulette's, Pikes' and Wilson's wineries, all of which have tasting and cellar-door sales facilities available.

Polish Hill River is within easy reach of the historic settlements of Mintaro, Penwortham and Sevenhill with its winery and cemetery in which many Polish pioneers are buried.

From the early 1850s onwards, number of Poles migrated to the area. Here they set up a community of more than 300 people at its largest, with its own priest, church and school, the playground language of which was Polish.

The Polish Hill River Church Museum is open from 11 am to 4 pm on the first Sunday of each month (except New Year's Day and Easter Sunday) or by appointment.
