With its wide-open spaces, quirky characters and historical charms, children and families alike will delight in the magic of the Clare Valley.
There are plenty of things to see and do for the younger visitor. For the adventurous type, there are parks and lookouts to explore, including Red Banks Conservation Park and Spring Gully Conservation Park, where you might be able to catch a Southern Hairy-nosed wombat, Western Grey Kangaroo or Short-beaked echidna. There’s also the Riesling Trail and Rattler Trails for some fresh air and family fun.
Alongside Lake Inchiquin in Clare, children will love the Model Train Rides, featuring electric, diesel and occasionally steam trains, passing through a grid of beautifully constructed tunnels and bridges.
Mintaro Maze is a must-do for the family. Explore the network of the traditional hedge maze, through twists and turns, providing hours of entertainment. For Christmas and Easter, there’s the famous Mintaro Maze Bunny Hunt, and during Gourmet Week, take part in the Haggis Hunt.
Picnic places, parks and open spaces
Picnic at World’s End Reserve
Pack a picnic lunch and let the kids explore the World’s End Reserve, just a 20 minute drive from Burra.
Feed the ducks at Burra Creek
Visit the friendly residents of the pretty Burra Creek. A playground, amenities and free barbecue are also available. Duck feed available from the Burra and Goyder Visitor Information Centre.
Richardson Park Playspace
An interactive play area kids will love, featuring slides, climbing frame and flying fox. Richardson Park Playspace is adjacent to the Riesling Trail at Sevenhill.
